West Plaza Hotel is a spacious, 5 level property located in Wellington CBD, just 3 minutes’ walk from Te Papa Museum.

City centre location. 5-10mins drive to almost anywhere. Staff were very friendly. They provided detailed guidance about the car park entrance which was really helpful as it is a little complicated to find it in the city centre (particularly in Wellington as it is a very hilly area with lots of turns and narrow roads).

Mövenpick Hotel Wellington, hotel in Wellington

Set in Wellington and with Freyberg Beach reachable within 1.4 mi, Mövenpick Hotel Wellington offers concierge services, nonsmoking rooms, a shared lounge, free WiFi and a bar.

The area was exceptional, as it was in an area with little loud noise but still very close to the CBD. The service was as great as you'd expect for a hotel of this price as well, but nothing you'd write home about. Extremely comfortable beds, and even the singles were big enough for someone who's 6 foot. Language inclusive as well with European languages around the staff. Very good for disabled folk if you're in a wheelchair only if you stay in the hotel; if leaving it can be an issue especially if you're preparing to go outside down the hills, but this is an issue that is common in Wellington.

We stayed at the Apollo which was an easy walk into town.

We stayed at the Apollo which was an easy walk into town. Buses to areas out of the city seemed pretty regular. Wellington is a pretty switched on city, with a creative energy and plenty of things to enjoy. Cuba St which is pedestrians only has plenty of cafes and restaurants and the food is top notch. Our favourites for dinner were Loretta’s, Olive, Mr Go’s. Icecream and Creaming sodas at Duck Island, coffees at Pickle and Pie, Cheese Scones beautiful pastries and coffee at Myrtle’s. Some good clothing shops, also recycling shops where there was really good clothing for sale at low prices, good bookstores. A must visit is Te Papa Museum - Level 4 Māori and Pacific Island history is impressive. The museum’s shop is also worth checking out. The lobby of QT Hotel (there’s a golden hippo on the hotel’s exterior) - you don’t need to be a guest to wander in to view the lobby area which includes a magnificent private art collection and a ritzy bar. Plenty of bars with music and Sunday Farmers Market on the waterfront was bustling with plenty of fruit and vegetables along with brunch food and coffee available.

Bus rides and train rides are awesome, just get yourself a Snapper card and more than one person can travel with that one card. Only one person can travel on that card on trains. Travelling in bus was also good, no hassle to driving or parking, bus service are almost everywhere till late nights and safe environments.

We thought Wellington was a beautiful City.

We thought Wellington was a beautiful City. We were there in late March. The weather was lovely and cool, just the right temperature if you like to explore a new location on foot. The bus system in the City is brilliant. The Metlink public transport card system can be a little intimidating but once you master it, it works exceptionally well. Otherwise, you can pay cash when travelling on the buses or trains, but it is quite significantly more expensive to pay this way. Also, it pays to check out the fare before you travel and have the correct money when getting on because nearly everyone uses the prepaid Metlink card so the driver has limited change. The seafood in New Zealand is the best in the world in my opinion. If you are staying centrally and have cooking facilities, I would recommend the Seafood Market in Lambton Quay or Cuba Street. It is not a huge shop but the fish comes in daily. Their fish and chips are pretty good as well. But there are plenty of seafood restaurants around that serve great food. Wellington is a a gorgeous city and reminded me very much of San Francisco.

Visited Te Papa Museum, Wellington Museum, Botanic Gardens and Portrait Gallery, all free access and excellent. Also took Cable Car (as you do) but the walk to and from Botanic Gardens is relatively easy as well. Went to Te Papa Museum and spent the entire day there - excellent. Ate at the Crab Shack and had the best meal in our entire NZ 2 week holiday - unfortunately, it was closed for 2 out of the 3 days we were in Wellington or we would have been back.

The hotel is well located for access to the Wellington CBD - with cuba street, the michael fowler centre and te papa all within easy walking distance. The staff were all pleasant and helpful and we were able to store our luggage prior to check in. The room was well appointed with two bedrooms, fully equipped bathroom and ensuite. The lounge was a good size and the furniture there comfortable; the balcony off the lounge overlooked the adjoining church. The kitchen was reasonably well equipped with a nice tea selection. The room was quiet.

My stay at the Mercure Hotel in Wellington over the Easter period was an absolute delight. The hotel's prime location allowed for easy exploration of the city, providing a perfect balance of convenience and tranquility. The room exceeded my expectations, offering comfort and luxury that enhanced my holiday experience. I have stayed at the hotel before. The number and quality of artworks provide a significant 'point of difference' for my husband and me when selecting somewhere to stay in Wellington. We love the gallery ambience - the array of contemporary New Zealand art is deeply pleasurable - a feeling that one never tires of! There are delights around every corner. We hope that this never changes. We are prepared to pay for the pleasure! We will be recommending the hotel to all of our friends who also love art and culture.

Luxurious looking rooms with a central location in Wellington. The long entryway in the room is a great concept more hotel need to employ as it cuts you off from some of the hallway noise, and gives a nice little kitchen/desk space area. Very comfortable beds, great bathroom. The complimentary snacks/drinks in the room were a great surprise as Americans used to those sort of things costing extra in hotel rooms. Very responsive and helpful owners.

I booked this at the last minute, as I wanted a hotel in the centre of the city. It was perfectly located and the staff were very diligent and helpful. The terrace room I booked was tired and certainly in need of renovation, but the bed was comfy and I slept well, despite it overlooking the road and the exit from the motorway.
